The Eclipse of Victory.

Once upon a time, there was a great empire called the Bunyoro Empire. It had the strongest warriors of all time. They fought and whenever they ambushed a village, they added it to their empire and the fighters took whatever pleased them, women, strong boys for fighters, cattle, food, among others.

One day these fighters went to western part of Uganda, the Nkole region, they fought and indeed worn the battle and took away women, children, men were killed, and these peoples treasure the cows. After this victory, they continue to Rwanda where they also fought and worn. They took their cattle as well. Indeed it was great victory for them so, they thought on their way back to their home, why not go back to Nkole and fight them again and take more cattle that had remained. With this plan they go back to Nkole ready and even stronger to fight and take it all. The battle was too tight for the Nkole people, mighty men fought so hard but all was in vain. At eventide when hope was gone, there suddenly occurred something never seen before.

They saw the invading king retreat in fear (and never return), spooked as day plunged into sudden darkness. As soon as they saw this, the Bunyoro warriors got scared and immediately fled away leaving their loot behind in fear of the Nkole gods who were not happy with what they had done and he would avenge for their act with their lives. The people and king of Nkole kingdom, Ntale I Nyabugarobwera celebrated for this victory and divided the cattle among themselves which they named “Empenda Ya Munoni and Enduga Mwiguru” meaning “cows from heaven”.

Since this all happened on Biharwe hill, there was put a monument in memory of this great victory called the Biharwe monument. However since there is modernity and education it is known that it was the eclipse that saved the day. It was given an English name as the eclipse monument.
